IEC 61850 MMS Server included in Meinberg Clocks
Integrate the Meinberg Clock into your existing IEC 61850 Substation Engineering Process & Monitoring using MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification)
IEC 61850 simplifies customization to enhance the compatibility of IEDs (bay controllers, protection relays, merging units) by different vendors, defining the types of messages and communication protocols (GOOSE, MMS, SV).
- It defines the use of PTP (Precision Time Protocol) as specified in the IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3 power utility profile standard for time synchronization under IEEE 1588 V2.1.
- Meinberg also supports the PTP Power Profiles IEEE C37.238-2011 and IEEE C37.238-2017.
- It defines the data model and variable properties that are imported to or exported from a clock.
- It provides data storage of configured data via SCL.
- Time properties: sync source, time accuracy, offset from UTC.
- Physical properties & device configuration:
of NTP/PTP ports, active/passive communication interfaces, PRP configuration. - Status: clock operational state, sync status, PTP clock status.
- Warnings/Errors: power consumption overload alert, power supply failure error.
- Additional features vary based on clock model.
Technical Information
Users can configure the setup and monitoring of a device using SCL files
- The Meinberg MMS server allows up to six concurrent client connections to support SCADA, HMI, test tools, and engineering tools to communicate with the clock at the same time (one clock = one IED model).
- MMS provides interoperability, which means it enables different devices to work together without requiring independent configuration changes. MMS is compatible with industry-standard tools for monitoring the device, datasets, and report control blocks.
- Users can configure their clock's IED model using Meinberg's IED Configuration Tool (currently in Alpha state), which is based on OpenSCD.
