The Fourth Generation: Meinberg LANTIME Timeserver V4

Generation 4

Following the great success of the Meinberg LANTIME product range, the new generation comes with a huge number of enhancements covering security and configuration. The new version now supports many new network protocols.

A Short Overview:

Better Security

The timeserver now can be administered using SSH (including SCP and SFTP for secure file transfers) and HTTPS, unneeded protocols can be disabled (e.g. FTP, TELNET or HTTP). The NTP version 4 installed on the LANTIMEs now supports symmetric keys as well as the new autokey feature.

Better Configuration

The completely new web interface (demo) now allows the administrator to set up all relevant parameters in a comfortable web user interface. A new text based setup utility can be used in SSH or TELNET sessions, covering 99% of the functionality of the web interface.

Better Notification Possibilities

The fourth LANTIME generation alerts the administrator in case of a problem: The extensive notification features include (but are not limited to) sending e-mails, syslog messages and SNMP traps. Additionally it is possible to use up to two VP 100/NET wall mount displays via TCP/IP to show notifications. In order to archieve maximum flexibility, a user-created shell script can be configured to be run when an alert occurs.

Now with IPv6 Support

Our timeservers are not limited to distributing time in IPv6 networks, they can also be managed completely by using an IPv6 compatible SSH-client and/or web browser. The configuration interfaces (web and text based) include all relevant IPv6 parameters (eg. up to 3 fixed IPv6 addresses as well as Autoconf). The implementation of the IPv6 features of our LANTIMEs have been realized in strong cooperation with the JOIN Project of the University of Muenster.

Extended SNMP-Support

Besides the usage of SNMP traps to up to 3 management systems for notification purposes, the LANTIME now additionally offers the monitoring of a long list of status variables. Almost all configurable parameters of the LANTIME can be altered by using SNMP as well. The supported versions are SNMP V1, V2c and V3.
