New NTP Version for Windows (4.2.4p3)

Meinberg released a new version of the NTP Installer for Windows. It can be downloaded from the NTP Download Page and comes with the current "stable" NTP version 4.2.4p3 from ntp.org. The installer includes the official HTML documentation as well as the required OpenSSL DLLs in their current version 0.9.8e.

Due to the big version jump from the previously available 4.2.0a or b to 4.2.4p3 this is a strongly recommended update.

The new installer has been approved for

• MS Windows 2000
• MS Windows XP (32bit)
• MS Windows 2003 (32bit)
• MS Windows Vista (32bit)
• MS Windows XP (64bit)
• MS Windows 2003 (64bit)
• MS Windows Vista (64bit)

The Installer itself as well as the contained binary files (ntpd.exe, ntpq.exe ...) have been digitally signed. Besides improvements for unattended/silent install mode the new release now checks for the configuration of the Windows Firewall (on XP, 2003 and Vista) and - after asking the user for permission - modify the firewall rules to allow NTP packets to pass it.

For users of Windows/NT the download page still offers the fluxcap-v2 version of the installer (with NTP 4.2.0a), because the newer NTP versions do not work properly on this OS.
