meinbergOS 2024.12 - Introducing the Latest Version of the microSync OS with Many New Features
The latest version of the microSync operating system, meinbergOS 2024.12 adds a number of compelling new features to Meinberg's microSync time servers, especially for users in the broadcasting and power industries.
Meinberg is pleased to announce the release of the latest meinbergOS 2024.12, which offers not only a number of new key functions for industry-specific applications but also many optimizations and improvements across the board.
Major New Features in meinbergOS 2024.12
-
Integration of PTP Track Hound
meinbergOS 2024.12 sees the integration of PTP Track Hound as part of the firmware, allowing your microSync to be operated as a PTP Track Hound monitoring station in its own right. The version of PTP Track Hound on the microSync is pre-activated with a "Capture" license. -
Support for PTPv1
meinbergOS 2024.12 introduces support for PTPv1 (IEEE 1588-2002), allowing the system to now be used with technologies and standards that are dependent on this particular version of the PTP standard. -
MMS Server Support for IEC 61850 Environments
meinbergOS 2024.12 introduces a new MMS server that allows the microSync to communicate directly with other IEC 61850 systems and convey a variety of information on its current operating conditions to SCADA and HMI systems used in the power industry. -
New Password Security Options
The latest version of meinbergOS offers new options that allow certain minimum password security requirements to be enforced. Among other things, administrators can set rules regarding minimum password lengths and the diversity of included characters, and can also prohibit passwords that are similar to previous passwords. -
Complete Overhaul of User Permissions
meinbergOS 2024.12 introduces a paradigm shift in the handling of user permissions to allow for a more streamlined and better structured approach to user management. -
Ability to Limit NTP Server to Initial Synchronization Time of Day
As of meinbergOS 2024.12, an NTP reference source can now be configured so that it is only used for the initial time-of-day synchronization. Previously, the time of day had to be configured manually when exclusively using a phase or frequency reference for syntonization or when operating in free-run mode. -
Several New Event Types
The event monitoring system can now record events relating changes in the quality of a SyncE input, the loss or redetection of a reference signal, or changes to an SSL certificate. -
Backup the Start Configuration Directly to a Connected USB Storage Medium
As of meinbergOS 2024.12, it is possible to automatically trigger a backup of the start-up configuration to an external USB storage medium by simply connecting the storage medium to the USB port. -
Alarm LED Can Now Signal User-Defined Events
The Alarm LED of a microSync can now be configured via the Web Interface to indicate the occurrence of certain defined events such as loss of synchronization or power supply failures. -
New Options for Disabling Certain Event Types
meinbergOS 2024.12 introduces the ability to disable certain event types so that predictable events do not trigger unnecessary alerts or log entries. -
Acknowledgment Mechanism for Monitored Events
meinbergOS 2024.12 brings a new acknowledgment mechanism for monitored errors and warnings. Whenever an error or warning event is generated, the user is prompted to acknowledge the event via the "Monitoring" tile on the Dashboard. This allows messages that are generally considered to be an issue, but which are known or tolerated, to be marked as such in the Web Interface. -
Overhauled Log Functionality
The Web Interface now also features a new Event Log in which all monitored events are recorded. All log pages now also feature a filter field to allow the required information to be found more quickly. -
Useful Information Displayed when Connecting via Terminal
When connecting to the microSync via a terminal interface (serial, SSH), the terminal output will now show a new MOTD (Message of the Day) with some useful basic information such as the current firmware version and the current IP address of the network connections. -
Optimized Navigation between Corresponding Configuration and State Pages
Selecting the "Configuration" or "State" button on a "Configuration" or "State" page to switch to the other corresponding page will now bring you straight to the appropriate tab on the matching subpage. This allows the effect of configuration changes to more easily be identified, or configurations to be reviewed directly when noticing something on the "State" page. -
Pre-Release Version of "microShell" CLI Tool
meinbergOS 2024.12 includes a preview of the new CLI tool microShell that allows every function and every parameter to be managed and monitored via the terminal over a serial or SSH connection. Meinberg hopes to receive plenty of feedback on the results of your experimentation and testing of this exciting new feature. -
Web Interface Rebuilt for Improved Performance
The Web Interface has now been entirely rebuilt as a single-page application, eliminating the need for page to be reloaded. This results in substantial improvements to the consistency, feel, and performance of the Web Interface.
As of February 24, 2025, all microSync devices will be shipped with the latest meinbergOS version 2024.12.
The meinbergOS 2024.12 Release Notes, which are also available for download on the firmware download page, provide a detailed and complete overview of the new range of functions.
