Meinberg successfully participated in Proof-of-Concept Trial conducted by NPL and ICE

The NPLTime® trusted time service of the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) provides a way for the financial industry to use a resilient, traceable and highly accurate source of time, independent from GPS, for their IT systems and networks. The performance of this service has been validated in a Proof-of-Concept trial carried out by NPL in cooperation with ICE (Intercontinental Exchange), a leading network of regulated exchanges and clearinghouses, including the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The service provides direct traceability to UTC over fiber and is applicable for use in the finance, energy, telecoms and other sectors where resiliency and traceable timing and synchronization is important. After a careful and detailed assessment of available PTP solutions on the market, NPL selected Meinberg products to be used for this.

The Proof-of-Concept trial has been documented in a whitepaper published by NPL. The Meinberg PTP products used in the test as IEEE 1588 Grandmaster Clocks synchronized to UTC(NPL) and the Meinberg M600 used as PTP Slave Clocks at various points in the network managed to keep a time offset of +/- 100 nanoseconds over a test period of 15 days. This was achieved over dedicated fiber links with a total length of more than 150 km.
