Meinberg Joins the Open Invention Network - OIN

Meinberg helps to protect open source software and applications against patent aggression by joining the OIN.

Bad Pyrmont, December 16, 2015 - Meinberg one of the world's leading manufacturers of time and frequency synchronization equipment, has joined the Open Invention Network to support and protect LINUX and LINUX-related systems from patent aggression.

The Open Invention Network is a shared defensive patent pool with the mission to protect the LINUX ecosystem by building a variety of defences against patent attacks and to foster a successful environment for open source software. As OIN Licensee, Meinberg benefits from royalty-free access to a valuable and growing portfolio of strategic patents.

Heiko Gerstung, Managing Director of Meinberg, said: "Meinberg is a strong proponent of open source and benefits from a lot of high quality software products from this ecosystem. By joining the OIN community we want to express our support for defending open software against patent aggression."

"We are glad more and more industry leaders like Meinberg are joining OIN's patent non-aggression pact," says Valer Mischenko, OIN's EMEA director. "Meinberg's joining does not only demonstrate its own commitment to Linux and Open Source, it also strengthens our community as a whole and invites the rest of the industry to do the same, thus creating the type of environment where a healthy balance of cooperation and competition drives innovation to levels not seen before."
