Meinberg joins the Linux Foundation

Bad Pyrmont/Germany, 11 October, 2011 - Meinberg Funkuhren GmbH & Co. KG today announced that the German company joined the Linux Foundation as a Silver Member. This step expresses Meinberg's view of Linux being an integral part of their development environment and their products.

The Linux Foundation is a non profit organization and as a neutral instance works on developing Linux and its growth. As part of this undertaking, the Linux Foundation sponsors the work of Linus Torvalds, the inventor of the free operation system.

Linux is a very important part of some of the most successful Meinberg products. The LANTIME NTP time server family as well as the PTP/IEEE1588 product range has been developed using Linux as a platform and without it would most probably not achieve the same level of flexibility, security and performance. Linux also runs on Meinberg's PTP capable products like the PTP270PEX IEEE1588 PCI express slot card, the SyncBox/PTPv2 standalone IEEE1588 slave as well as the different grandmaster clocks (like, for example, the LANTIME M600/GPS/PTPv2, LANTIME M600/MRS/PTPv2, LANTIME M400/GPS/PTPv2 or the LANTIME M900/GPS).

With the Linux Foundation membership Meinberg pursues the goal to be able to get more detailed information about the newest Linux developments in a faster way and at the same time expand the possibilities to directly contribute to the Linux project.
