Meinberg Announces New NTP and PTP Protocol Simulation Software

Meinberg Radio Clocks introduces a new software for NTP and PTP protocol simulation.

MEINBERG NTP / PTP Protokoll Simulation

Bad Pyrmont, June 18, 2012 - Meinberg Radio Clocks, a leading provider of solutions for time and frequency synchronization, announces today the release of its newest product -"MBGProtosim ".

The Meinberg Protocol Simulator enables the user to define, set up and run a wide range of simulation scenarios with hundreds or thousands of simulated NTP or PTP nodes. The simulator can be used to verify the proper protocol implementation of devices as well as stress tests for real NTP or PTP capable devices and the network infrastructure. The software records response times, packet loss and protocol violations and has been used with both internal product development at Meinberg and on-site customer tests where an array of simulators has simulated more than 150,000 NTP clients simultaneously.

The latest version 1.04 of the simulation software has been released, which makes it possible to specify an optional simulation time prior to the start of a simulation, then distribute this time by the simulated NTP server or PTP Master to all the clients in the network. In addition, it is able to simulate a leap second and allow the user to test the clients' ability to handle leap seconds correctly.

Modes provided by the Software:

NTP

  • NTP Clients (IPv4, IPv6)
  • NTP Server (IPv4, IPv6)
PTPv1 (IEEE 1588-2002)
  • Multicast Slaves (IPv4)

PTPv2 (IEEE 1588-2008)
  • Unicast Slaves (IPv4, IPv6)
  • Unicast Masters (IPv4, IPv6)
  • Multicast Slaves (IEEE802.1/Ethernet Layer 2, IPv4, IPv6)
  • Multicast Masters (IEEE802.1/Ethernet Layer 2, IPv4, IPv6)

MBGProtosim is shipped on a bootable USB stick, allowing you to transform almost any x86-64bit capable PC or server into a powerful simulation system. Due to the nature of the Debian based live Linux system, the hard disk of the simulator PC is not modified and allows you to use the system for other purposes as well.
