IBC 2016 - IP Interop Showcases for Broadcasting and Professional Audio/Video Production

Meinberg will participate in two IP Interop showcases at this year's International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam, Netherlands with its PTP Grandmasters.

The transition to IP is one of the biggest challenges facing broadcasters and media companies today, with fears over limited inter-working and a lack of recognized standards the most common brake on progress. IBC is set to demonstrate practical and proven interoperability with an exciting new demonstration area launching at this year's show.

The IBC IP Interoperability Zone is presented for the first time this year with the cooperation of AIMS (Alliance for IP Media Solutions) and the IABM (International trade association for suppliers of broadcast and media technology). The zone brings to life the work of the JT-NM (the Joint Task Force on Networked Media: a combined initiative of AMWA, EBU, SMPTE and VSF) and the AES on a common roadmap for IP interoperability.

With interoperability from over 30 diverse companies demonstrated, visitors can engage directly with the advances in Timing, Transport and Registration & Discovery.

Meinberg will have two LANTIME M1000 PTP Grandmasters at the Interop Zone
One of the devices is located in the "PTP Timing" rack, showing how PTP with the SMPTE Profile ST 2059-2 can be used to solve the problem to replace traditional Genlock and Wordclock signal distribution within a facility. Visitors can see how these legacy signals can be reproduced with PTP and how the accuracy demand can be fulfilled even if the network is heavily loaded or PTP Masters are changing.

The second device is acting as a PTP Grandmaster in the "Transport rack" that consists of devices which exchange Video- Audio- and Timing signals over IP according to the standards SMPTE 2022-6, VSF TR-03 / TR-04 and AES67.

The IP Interoperability Zone can be found in Hall 8 (Stand 8.D10). It is open throughout the IBC Exhibition, from Friday September 9 to Tuesday September 13, and is free to all IBC visitors.

The second Interop at IBC which Meinberg is taking part in is at the Media Networking Alliance (MNA) booth that demonstrates interoperability of AES67-capable equipment. Meinberg's M1000 unit acts again as the PTP Grandmaster for the participating devices. The MNA booth can be found in Hall 8, Stand 8.C94.
