High Acceptance and Participation: IEEE 1588 Spring Plugfest

In two weeks the first IEEE 1588 Spring Plugfest starts in Lemgo, Germany. This event enables vendors of PTP devices and components to run a number of tests in order to ensure reliability, interoperability and performance for their customers. The number of participating organizations for this first-time-ever Spring Plugfest is promising: more than 20 companies and research institutes from more than 10 countries are coming to Lemgo to participate in a 3-days test program that is intended to complement the annual ISPCS Plugfest.

Very encouraging is the high number of participating Ethernet switches with IEEE 1588 support - more than 20 devices from 5 different manufacturers are available to form a number of complex test network layouts and topologies.

In addition to the Grandmaster Clock and Slave Clock vendors the plugfest test program will intergrate several PTP-related test and measurement devices. These measurement systems and network impairment generators can simulate network conditions and provide IEEE 1588 specific measurements.

The Spring Plugfest is organized by the two Lemgo insitutes InIT and Fraunhofer IOSB-INA and is supported by Meinberg, the company significantly supported the hosts in organizing the event and in setting up the test program and schedule.

Public Plugfest Viewing Event on Thursday, March 31st 2011

All interested parties who would like to find out more about IEEE 1588 / PTP have the opportunity to come to Lemgo and visit the plugfest on the second afternoon of the event (Thursday, 31st of March 2011). This allows everybody interested in this upcoming network synchronization technology to meet the participating companies and gather first-hand-knowlegde about the products and underlying technology.

More details about the plugfest and the public plugfest viewing event can be found on the official ISPCS Spring Plugfest Website. In order to register for a plugfest visit on Thursday afternoon, please contact Mr. Sebastian Schriegel (contact details can be found here).
