Meinberg's Experts in Attendance

Meinberg's Head of Software Development Daniel Boldt will be there, speaking not only at the Create Experiential Zone about the use of IEEE1588 PTP in Media-over-IP environments in a presentation on April 17, but also providing the benefit of his expertise at the Meinberg stand about the latest developments in Meinberg's powerful synchronization solutions and how they are used to their fullest potential in hybrid environments with analog, SDI-based, and IP-based components.

PTP Track Hound v2 developer Thomas Behn will also be present, talking about how to best implement a comprehensive PTP monitoring network in Media-over-IP networks using Meinberg's powerful monitoring tool, and will also be providing a live demonstration of the software in action.

Daniel and Thomas will be holding their on-booth presentations at the same time each day from April 16 until April 18, so stop by when it best suits you:

IP Meets IP

IP is the currency in which the broadcasting & media industry lives, thrives, and trades. This is an industry of creativity, one in which the assets of the trade are almost wholly intangible. While society at large thinks of the 'internet protocol' when we talk about 'IP', the content industry lives and thrives entirely on 'intellectual property'. So, what happens when IP meets IP?

While creators of intellectual property have been among the earliest adopters of internet-based technologies with the rise of digital distribution and the ubiquity of streaming platforms, substantial investments in production hardware mean that, change can by necessity be slow behind the scenes. Many media productions that have their premieres on digital platforms are produced using decades-old workflows based on SDI or even analog feeds, with the internet really only playing a role in administration & distribution.

But times are changing. Systems based on standards such as ST 2110, AES67, and NDI are organically gaining in market share as production studios replace aging SDI-based hardware and edge towards IP-centric production. That's not to say that SDI is disappearing any time soon. Even studios whose production workflows are overhauled to focus on IP-based production still often have to handle analog and SDI content, and need to be able to bridge these worlds with a variety of conversion technologies.

Only robust, high-accuracy clock & synchronization technology provides the common denominator needed for sampling and synchronization, and Meinberg's industry-leading timing solutions provide the accuracy and flexibility needed to achieve just this.

The Power of PTP for Broadcasting Environments

Meinberg servers make it possible to synchronize everything in your broadcasting network, from your central studio to your mobile OB vans. Solutions are available for every need—ranging from powerful modular time servers supporting a variety of broadcasting signal synchronization signals to compact rack-mounted solutions suitable for on-the-road syncing.

And as IP-based technologies gain in prominence, so too does the need for IP network redundancy. The architecture specified by SMPTE ST 2022-7 provides robust path redundancy for the transmission of content over an IP network, but both paths always need to be bound to the same synchronization reference—otherwise the redundancy is for naught.

Larger networks often have multiple master clocks standing by as grandmaster candidates, with PTP ensuring that all devices in the network use the same grandmaster as their root timing reference. But what happens if a network path failure splits your PTP network in two and you suddenly have two out-of-sync grandmasters governing the timing of different SMPTE ST 2022-7 transmission paths?

Find out here how Meinberg systems solve this.
