Application of the GPS Antenna Splitter

The module GPSAV4 is available in three different variants, the type of application determines their usage. The length of the antenna cable from the antenna via the distributor to the receiver is not allowed to exceed 300 meters (if coaxial cable RG58 is used) for all configurations shown on this page. Basic Antennena Distributor


You have to use a GPSAV4 (standard) for this purpose (see Figure 1): Please note that "Output 1" of the GPSAV4 must always be connected to a MEINBERG GPS receiver to make the GPS signal available at the other outputs. This connection is required because the Master Channel 1 provides the power supply and the mixture frequency needed by the converter unit.

Cascaded Antenna Distributors

It's possible to build up a two or three level cascade by using Meinberg antenna distributors. This allows synchronization of a maximum of 49 Meinberg GPS receivers using a single antenna/converter unit.

Cascaded GPS Antennas in two Levels

When cascading only two levels of GPSAV4 e.g. connect up to thirteen MEINBERG GPS receivers to one MEINBERG GPS antenna you can use standard GPSAV4 hardware (see Figure 2).

Like described above, the Output 1 of the Master device must always be connected to a Meinberg GPS receiver. This connection is not necessary for the distributors in the subsequent level (GPSAV4).

Cascaded GPS Antennas in three Levels

To implement the cascade, the variants GPSAV4/Master and GPSAV4/Slave must be used. The "Master" device is connected to the GPS antenna/converter unit, all other distributors have to be of type "Slave" (see Figure 3).

Like described above, the Output 1 of the Master device must always be connected to a Meinberg GPS receiver.
This connection is not necessary for the distributors in subsequent levels (GPSAV4/Slave).
