TLS - Transport Layer Security
Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a cryptographic protocol that ensures data privacy and integrity when communicating over a computer network. It provides a secure communication channel between two devices, usually a client (e.g. a web browser) and an NTP server (hosting a website), or between two servers.
TLS is the successor to the former Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. The main goal of TLS is to establish a secure and encrypted connection to prevent eavesdropping, tampering or forgery of messages during data transmission. It is used at the transport layer of the Internet protocol suite and is widely used to secure various applications and services, e.g. web browsing, email, instant messaging and more.
