Meinberg's GPS180AMC - A Satellite Clock for AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA Systems


The GPS180AMC is an AdvancedMC™ satellite clock, developed to provide highly accurate frequencies and time information to systems, designed as defined in the AdvancedMC™ (AMC) standard.

Advanced Mezzanine Cards (AMC) can be used in both Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) and Micro Telecom Computing Architecture (MicroTCA) Systems. MicroTCA optimized for smaller scale applications is complementary to AdvancedTCA. The basic premise of MicroTCA is that it supports mezzanine boards, which are directly connected to the backplane. This allows direct plug in of an AMC card. The AMC's specifications (AMC.0, AMC.1, AMC.2, AMC.3, AMC.4) are defined by a PICMG (PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturer Group) standard.

AMC cards can be employed in many different ways. They were developed to complement the AdvancedTCA standard, to customize I/O or peripheral processing functions, when plugged to an AdvancedTCA CPU or mezzanine carrier board. AMC cards enable the user to employ the same AdvancedTCA CPU board for different applications, even if the I/O requirements vary. The AdvancedMC™ cards are designed to fulfil the requirements of the next generation carrier grade communications equipment. AdvancedMC™ is the most widely used open standard for global telecommunications infrastructure.

Meinberg's GPS180AMC satellite radio clock is a module in the "Single, Mid-Size AMC Module" format. The module GPS180AMC can simultaneously be used to generate (reference) frequencies and as time standard to synchronize the system time of a processor module in both AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA Systems. It uses the information of the GPS System to obtain extremely accurate time information and to discipline the master oscillator.
